چکیده

This paper investigates optimal pricing policies for a service facility modeled as a queueing system. Arriving customers are accepted if they are willing to pay the price charged by the service provider and if there is room in the waiting area. Capacity of the waiting area can be either finite or infinite. We determine expressions for the optimal prices that maximize the service provider’s long-run average profit and we prove some structural results on the optimal policies exploring their relationships with the customers’ willingness to pay and system parameters such as service speed and waiting room capacity. We show that the optimal price is not necessarily higher for systems where customers are willing to pay more and the relationship between the optimal price and waiting room capacity depends on customer demand and other system parameters. Under certain assumptions, we give necessary and sufficient conditions for the optimal price to be an increasing or decreasing function of the waiting room capacity.

Demand Management in Delay-Sensitive Markets

Managing customer demand can be challenging for a facility that services delay-sensitive customers. Attracting a high level of demand will result in long delays, which discourage customers to request service. However, low demand means little profitability for the service facility. Pricing is a known way to effectively manage demand. We determine the optimal pricing strategy for the service faci...

Optimal (R, Q) policy and pricing for two-echelon supply chain with lead time and retailer’s service-level incomplete information

Many studies focus on inventory systems to analyze different real-world situations. This paper considers a two-echelon supply chain that includes one warehouse and one retailer with stochastic demand and an up-to-level policy. The retailer’s lead time includes the transportation time from the warehouse to the retailer that is unknown to the retailer. On the other hand, the warehouse is unaware ...

Optimal Pricing for Competitive Service Facilities with Balking and Veering Customers

This paper focuses on determining the optimal pricing strategy for a service providing firm with multiple facilities. The market is involved with some other competing firms providing the same service. The firm and its competitors might devise three different pricing policies as uniform mill pricing, distinct mill pricing and delivered pricing. Customers choose the facilities probabilistically b...

Two-level supply chain quality improvement through a wholesale price coordination contract on pricing, quality and services

Nowadays, competitive market creates the necessity of quality improvement in different levels of supply chains (SCs). This paper contributes to the SC coordination literature and proposes a bilateral coordination contract for optimizing pricing decisions along with quality improvement decisions in different echelons of a real case of a cell phone SC. The SC comprises a manufacturer who deals wi...

Congestion-Dependent Pricing in a Stochastic Service System

We study a service facility modelled as a queueing system with finite or infinite capacity. Arriving customers enter if there is room in the facility and if they are willing to pay the price posted by the service provider. Customers belong to one of a finite number of classes that have different willingnesses-to-pay. Moreover, there is a penalty for congestion in the facility in the form of sta...

Optimal static pricing for a service facility with holding costs

We study a service facility modelled as a single server queueing system with Poisson arrivals and limited or unlimited buffer size. In systems with unlimited buffer size, the service times have general distributions, whereas in finite buffered systems service times are exponentially distributed. Arriving customers enter if there is room in the facility and if they are willing to pay the posted ...
